What’s cooking: Temporary SVH Bistro closure and kitchen upgrade

A coral-colored

Starting June 1 and through October 1, the Skagit Valley Hospital (SVH) Bistro will temporarily close as we begin an exciting behind-the-scenes kitchen upgrade—an important investment in our future and in the people we serve every day. While change can be an adjustment, this project is all about setting us up for better, more efficient food service for years to come.

Why the closure? Much of our kitchen infrastructure dates back to the 1950s. The upcoming work focuses entirely on the back of the house, replacing outdated equipment, improving workflow and expanding cooking capacity. These upgrades will allow our Food and Nutrition Services team to prepare more meals, more efficiently, while continuing to prioritize high-quality patient service.

During the closure, patient meals remain the top priority and will be supported through temporary kitchen units. At the same time, staff and visitors will still have plenty of convenient and satisfying options:

  • The San Juan Conference Room will transform into the San Juan Market, offering grab‑and‑go and heat‑and‑eat meals, snacks and beverages.
  • You’ll see new Bistro Express food fridges (located at SVH Kincaid Lobby, SVH Main Entrance near the Gift Shop, and Mount Vernon Surgery Center).
  • You can also look forward to food truck days, along with enhanced food offerings at Whidbey Coffee.
We appreciate everyone's flexibility and positive spirit during this transition. This is a temporary change with a long-term payoff and we're excited about what's cooking next at Skagit Valley Hospital.
